TUESDAY – This morning following breakfast we allow you a free day to explore Oban. Oban itself is compact and it's easy to get round on foot. There are plenty of small galleries and independent stores to browse through, as well as the centrally-located local distillery, chocolate shop, and museum. Wander along the seafront to the ruined Dunollie Castle and the sandy beaches beyond - the sunsets here are phenomenal. Alternatively, you may wish to take advantage of the Oban Bay Hotels Spa facilities and treat yourself to a spa day or treatment.
Following a day exploring Oban, dinner is served in the hotel restaurant this evening. Meals - Breakfast, Dinner
WEDNESDAY – This morning following an early breakfast, we come to what must be one of the major highlights of this tour, a full day excursion to travel the Spectacular West Highland Line aboard the world famous ‘Jacobite’ steam service. We travel from Oban to Fort William, where we board the mid-morning steam service to Mallaig. Described as the greatest railway journey in the world, this 84 mile round trip takes you past a list of impressive extremes. Starting near the highest mountain in Britain, Ben Nevis, it visits Britain's most westerly mainland railway station, Arisaig; passes close by the deepest freshwater loch in Britain, Loch Morar and the shortest river in Britain, River Morar, finally arriving next to the deepest seawater loch in Europe, Loch Nevis!
We arrive in Mallaig at lunchtime and allow some free time before we board the afternoon return Jacobite service back to Fort William.
Late afternoon, we depart Fort William and return to your hotel in time for dinner. Meals – Breakfast, Dinner
THURSDAY - This morning we come to another major highlight of this tour, a full day excursion to the Isle of Mull.
Following breakfast, we take the short drive to Oban ferry terminal to take a mid-morning ferry to Craignure on the Isle of Mull. On arrival in Craignure, we rejoin our luxury coach as we take you to Tobermory the ‘capital’ of Mull.
On arrival in Tobermory, we visit the
Tobermory Distillery
for a guided tour followed by whisky tasting. Following your visit, the rest of the time is yours to enjoy this picturesque fishing village, which is renowned for its colourful buildings. The Main Street is a mix of shops, eateries, hotels and guesthouses and has an excellent selection of locally produced arts and crafts. Tobermory is also home to the Mull Museum, crammed with information about the history of Mull and its people. The Marine Visitor Centre houses fascinating exhibits about the area’s marine heritage.
This afternoon, we say farewell to Tobermory as we re-board our luxury coach for the journey back to Craignure. However, your day on Mull is not over yet because we have included a traditional afternoon tea at the 4* Isle of Mull Hotel, which offers excellent views across Craignure Bay.
Late afternoon, we take the very short drive to Craignure Ferry Terminal, where we board a ferry back to Oban. On arrival in Oban, we return to your hotel in time for dinner and your final night.
Meals - Breakfast, Afternoon Tea, Dinner
FRIDAY - This morning following an early breakfast, we bid a fond farewell to the Oban Bay Hotel as we begin the journey home taking the memories of this wonderful holiday home with us. We travel through Glen Ogle, which is a very popular routing with many of our clients who travel with us. A brief comfort stop is made in Callander before continuing the journey south to arrive back at your original joining point late afternoon/evening.
