Tour Itinerary

MONDAY - From your local departure point, we travel to Oban, and the 4* Oban Bay Hotel, where we arrive early evening. This will be your base for the next four nights and borders the bay with views to the isles. A destination as much as a base for exploring Scotland’s west coast. Seafood and prime cuts regularly appear on the hotels award-winning Grill Room’s menu. Sunroom windows to watch the ferries drift by over afternoon tea or a nightcap. The hotel also offers a Thermal Experience with outdoor hot tub and sauna, which provide natural sources of relaxation complimenting the hotels Ishga spa treatments perfectly. This hotel offers a gateway and a getaway in one. After some time to relax and unwind, we enjoy dinner in the hotel restaurant tonight. Meals - Dinner

TUESDAY This morning following an early breakfast, we come to what must be one of the major highlights of this tour, a full day excursion taking in the Spectacular West Highland Line between Crianlarich & Fort William aboard the standard Scotrail service. We travel from Oban to Crianlarich, where we board the mid-morning Scotrail service to Fort William. Heading north from Crianlarich is a real spectacle, beginning with the remarkable Horseshoe Curve that enters, circles and leaves the glen beneath Ben Dorain. Then the landscape empties into the broad wilds of Rannoch Moor – where the line floats over the peat bog that stretches to the mountains far in the distance on all sides. If you like to tick these things off, you’ll pass the UK’s highest altitude train station in Corrour. You may also recognise it from scenes in Trainspotting. As the train pushes on to Fort William we travel through Spen Bridge and keep an eye out for Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest peak.

We arrive in Fort William at lunchtime where our luxury coach is waiting to transfer us to the Crerar 5* Glencoe Inn & Gathering (A Crerar Hotel) nestled in Glencoe Village for an included two course lunch with drink before we take a spectacular scenic winter drive through Glencoe and the Bridge of Orchy to Tyndrum, where we make a brief stop on our return to Oban. Meals - Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

WEDNESDAY - This morning following a leisurely breakfast we allow you a free day to explore Oban. Oban itself is compact and it's easy to get round on foot. There are plenty of small galleries and independent stores to browse through, as well as the centrally-located local distillery, chocolate shop, and museum. Wander along the seafront to the ruined Dunollie Castle and the sandy beaches beyond - the sunsets here are phenomenal. Alternatively, you may wish to take advantage of the Oban Bay Hotels Spa facilities and treat yourself to a spa day or treatment (extra charges apply). Tonight we mark Burns Night and enjoy a traditional Burns Night Dinner at the hotel. Meals - Breakfast & Burns Night Supper Dinner

THURSDAY - We enjoy breakfast before heading out on another scenic excursion. This morning we enjoy a scenic drive through Kilmartin Glen, which is rich in neolithic history. Kilmartin Glen is located between Oban and Lochgilphead, surrounding the village of Kilmartin, on the west of Scotland. The area spans 5,000 years with a multitude of cairns, standing stones, carved rock, stone circles, forts and castles. Kilmartin Glen is considered to have one of the most important concentrations of Neolithic and Bronze Age remains in Scotland. There are more than 350 ancient monuments within a six mile radius of the village, with 150 of them being prehistoric. Monuments include standing stones, a henge monument, numerous cists, and a ‘linear cemetery’ comprising five burial cairns.

We arrive in the lochside town of Inveraray with some free time for lunch & a look round before returning to Oban & the Oban Bay Hotel, where afternoon tea awaits. This evening, we enjoy dinner in the hotel restaurant for the final time. Meals - Breakfast, Afternoon Tea, Dinner

FRIDAY - This morning following an early breakfast, we bid a fond farewell to the Oban Bay Hotel as we begin the journey home taking the memories of this wonderful holiday home with us. We travel through Glen Lochy, Glen Dochart & Glen Ogle, which is a very popular routing with many of our clients who travel with us. A brief comfort stop is made in Callander before continuing the journey south to arrive back at your original joining point late afternoon/evening. Meals - Breakfast
